2018 STA Pac-Cup Team Now Recruiting!

The STA is hosting the 2018 Pac Cup competition at Sand Point Tennis Center August 25th and 26th and we are looking for players to represent Seattle against teams from other west coast cities!

Pac Cup is designed for players with a GLTA 'B' (USTA 3.5) rating.  While there are a limited number of slots (5) for players with a mixed ratings (at least singles or doubles rating that qualifies) the remainder of the 12 slots must be players with no more than the GLTA 'B' rating in both singles and doubles.  To participate in Pac Cup, you must be a member of the STA (another reason to join!).

The team will be selected based on team ladder challenge match results and the discretion of the team captains.  Though try-outs are competitive, in the spirit of the STA, we also aim to have fun and ensure that all who play or cheer on others have a positive experience.

The STA team will again be captained by Mark Hanses and Blaine Inafuku.  If you would like to participate in team try-outs, contact Mark or Blaine at today!

2018 Northwest Cup Team Begins Practice

Help STA defend their 2017 Northwest Cup Title! The 2018 NW Cup dates have been confirmed and we are ready to begin building the team.  The STA is hosting the event in Seattle this year at Nordstrom Tennis Center on June 2nd and 3rd.  Both Team Portland Tennis and Vancouver Tennis Associations have confirmed their participation.

For those who may not know, Northwest Cup is a competition between the best players from the Pacific Northwest GLTA clubs including Seattle, Portland and Vancouver.  It is intended for players ranked 4.0 and above.  The event is a “top 12” player format (i.e., the best players each club team can supply, regardless of gender), so each team will have a minimum of 12 players.

The team captain will again use the STA challenge ladder to select a majority of the singles players for the team.  The top 6 players on the STA ladder playing on the team will play at least one singles match in NW Cup.  The captain will choose the rest of the line-up at his discretion (wild card slots) based on ladders results and your interest in playing on the team. The STA team will be captained again this year by Jeff Worthington.

You can find out where you’re at on the STA challenge ladder on the website challenge ladder page.   Unless you played in the Herb Millro tournament, you’ll find that you are likely no longer on the ladder, so get out there and start playing some challenge matches and report your scores!  Scores should be reported to the challenge ladder director at

Practices will be on Mondays starting February 12 and you must be a member to participate.  If you are interested in being on the team or have any questions,  please email the NW Cup captain (Jeff) at

The Winter/Spring Challenge Ladder is ON!

The 2018 1st half challenge ladder is officially a on!  The ladder has been populated based on the results of the Herb Millro tournament held over the holiday break and the grand prix race begins again with a clean slate!!! Challenge, compete, and play often to win the $50 first place grand prix prize!  There are separate men's and women's ladders, but women are also welcome to play the men's challenge ladder.

If you want to play the ladder but don't see your name on there currently, no problem!  Simply challenge another STA member (on or off the current list) and when you report your results, your name will be added based on the rules and results.  If you have questions about how the ladder or grand prix race works, check out the Ladder and Grand Prix Rules web page for more details!  If you have any questions, email
